Class timings for education institutions will remain unchanged despite the two-day weekly holiday, says Education Minister Dipu Moni.
She made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the National Mourning Day program organized by Daffodil Institute of IT in the capital on Monday afternoon.
In a bid to save energy, the Cabinet on Monday, announced the government decision to keep educational institutions closed two days a week.
Dipu Moni said that educational institutions will have to conduct their work within five days instead of six.
She said: “We decided to keep the holidays on Friday and Saturday as most children have working parents who have weekends on these days. They usually drop their children to schools before going to their offices.”
She added that teachers work six-days a week and having an extra day off will help them work more energetically.
The minister said: “The global power crisis has led us to make this decision so we can save electricity. The vehicles used to carry students to schools consume a lot of fuel. By reducing the number of days at school, fuel consumption could be reduced.”
Meanwhile, the government also decided to set office hours from 8am to 3pm, for all government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions from Wednesday.
Banks will open its door at 9am and continue till 4pm as per the new decision.
