Diesel-run power plants to shut down temporarily

As much as 1,000MW less electricity will be generated, says Nasrul Hamid

State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that diesel-run power plants will remain closed from Monday (July 18, 2022).

He made the remarks at a meeting at Prime Minister’s Office on Monday.

The state minister said: “Production at diesel-run power plants will be stopped today (Monday). Hence, 1,000MW less electricity generated.”

He added that this step will lead to more power cuts in the country periodically. Load shedding will last for two hours in the areas.

Markets and shops are ordered to close by 8pm every day, while mosques are being barred from operating ACs.

The decisions will remain in effect until further notice. 

Nasrul Hamid urged everyone to work together to resolve the problem.
