Nirmal Ranjan Guha, president of Awami Swechasebak League, has died.
He breathed his last at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on Wednesday morning (Bangladesh time), according to several leaders of the volunteer wing of the ruling Awami League.
Nirmal was 58 at the time of his death. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a number of well-wishers.
The Swechasebak League leader was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Dhaka’s Shyamoli on June 12.
He was later put on life support. Doctors diagnosed him with coronary artery disease and performed an angioplasty on him, but his health condition continued to worsen.
Nirmal was taken to Mount Elizabeth Hospital on June 16 by an air ambulance.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed shock and grief at the death of the Swechasebak League president.
In a condolence message, she prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
