Court summons Fakhrul, 2 others for provoking students during road safety movement

They have been asked to appear before court on July 14

A Dhaka court has summoned three BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and two more BNP leaders for provoking students during the road safety movement in 2018.

The two other BNP leaders are - Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed and standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam ordered them to appear before the court on July 14, after accepting probe reports submitted by the Tejgaon police station, according to media reports.

On August 6, 2018, the President of Jananetri Parishad AB Siddique filed the case against the three BNP leaders. 

An audio clip of Amir Khasru talking over the phone with an unknown individual went viral on Facebook and YouTube on August 4, in which they talked about escalating the movement.

On February 6 of 2019, Mohammad Sentu Miah, the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the probe report to the court.

According to the IO, the charges brought against the three leaders are primarily proven, and they must be tried for allegedly inciting anarchy during the movement.
