Health Minister: Opposition lawmakers to get 4th Covid-19 vaccine dose for free

Opposition lawmakers alleged corruption and lack of governance in the health sector

Opposition lawmakers will receive the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine for free, says Health Minister Zahid Maleque. 

He made the humorous remarks in during a discussion at the Parliament on Monday. 

The minister was responding to a cut motion of Health Services Division in FY 2021-22. 

"No one wants to know how Covid-19 was brought under control. I have not even seen any appreciation for the government's success in fighting Covid-19," he said. 

He emphasized on the various steps taken by the government to curb the infections in the country and vaccinate the masses. 

"The opposition lawmakers have helped as well. Lawmakers are requesting to provide a fourth Covid-19 vaccine dose to the opposition lawmakers for free,” he said. 

“Three does have been provided so far, and the fourth dose will be also provided for free," he added.

The minister said that the BNP is under the impression that if they can show the health ministry as a failure then the government can be deemed a failure as well. 

Meanwhile, Gonoforum MP Mokabbir Khan alleged large scale corruption in the health sector. 

He said that there remains a lack of good governance and liability in the health sector and people are being deprived of necessary health services. 

BNP lawmaker Rumeen Farhan alleged that the government in only interested in physical infrastructures because it provides them scopes to plunder funds. 

Harunur Rashid, another BNP lawmaker called on the parliamentary committee to look into why equipment worth thousands of crores of taka were purchased for the district and upazila level hospitals in the last 13 years but not used.
