Another BAEC official injured in Savar road crash dies

A total of six people have died so far and nearly 40 others injured

Another official of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) injured in the road crash in Savar has died, taking the death toll in the accident to six. 

Farhana Nipa, 35, a scientist at the BAEC, succumbed to her injuries late on Wednesday. 

BAEC Technical Officer Atiqur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune. 

He said that Nipa was first rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar after the tragic crash on Sunday. 

However, she suffered a heavy brain hemorrhage due to injuries to her head and broke bones as well. 

She was later shifted to the ICU at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) when her condition deteriorated. 

Nipa was a scientific officer at the BAEC and a former student of Jahangirnagar University’s Geological Science Department. 

On Tuesday, the driver of the bus that hit the BAEC bus succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. 

On Sunday, three vehicles collided at on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar on Sunday morning killing four people on spot, including three BAEC officials. The accident left 40 people injured. 

According to the police, a bus carrying officials and employees of BAEC was going to Ganakbari in Savar from Dhaka in the morning.

The bus plowed through a road divider after its driver lost control over the steering and a speeding truck carrying cows hit the bus from behind at the same time.

The accident got deadlier when another bus hit the damaged bus and the truck.
