The much-awaited Padma Bridge will be off-limits to those who intend to walk across it, officials said.
“No one can cross the bridge on foot. A notification was issued on May 17 regarding vehicles that will be allowed to cross the bridge and the toll rate,” Shah Mohammad Musa, supervising engineer of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, told the media on Monday.
He said that bicycles as well as CNG-run autorickshaws will not be allowed to cross the bridge either.
“Vehicles will be moving at a specific speed over the bridge. If someone goes on foot or any slow-moving vehicles cross the bridge, accidents may occur. This measure has been taken considering all possible situations,” he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the bridge on June 25.
According to the May 17 notification, 13 types of vehicles will be allowed to cross the bridge.
Accordingly, Tk100 will be charged for motorcycles, Tk750 for cars or jeeps, Tk1,200 for pickup vans, Tk1,300 for microbuses, Tk1,400 for small buses (31 seats or less), Tk2,000 for medium buses (32 seats or more), and Tk2,400 for larger buses as tolls.
