Six more war heroines (Biranganas), women who were tortured by the Pakistani forces during the 1971 Liberation War, have been accorded the Freedom Fighter (FF) status through a gazette issued by the government recently.
The Biranganas received this recognition as per the decision taken during the 78th meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council.
Fatema Begum, Khatija Begum, Chikhon Chokh Tanchangya, Kina Puti Tanchangya, Jahanara Begum and Feroza Bewa received the FF status through the notification.
With this, the number of Biranganas recognized as freedom fighters stand at 448.
