The fear of attack increased due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war

Update : 01 May 2022, 05:18 PM

Authorities have warned of a potential cyber-attack on the computer systems of financial and other important institutions of the country during the Eid holidays.

Bangladesh Government’s e-Government Computer Incident Response Team (BGD e-Gov CIRT) said in a statement on Friday that in the wake of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, hackers from both sides are attacking each other by infecting botnets and malware on important information infrastructure in different countries.

Analyzing the warning message provided by the Russian Computer Security Incident Response Team, BGD e-Gov CIRT found about 1400 IP numbers used in the country.

According to the agency, hackers are conducting propaganda and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks from these IPs.

In this regard, Tareq M Barkatullah, project director of BGD e-Gov CIRT, said: "Due to the misuse of these IP-enabled Bangladeshi servers, the country's infected financial institutions and public service providers are being hampered in providing their regular services."
