National Eidgah getting ready for Eid after two years

In case of inclement weather, the main Eid congregation will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque

Update : 29 Apr 2022, 07:48 PM

Eid prayers were not held at the National Eidgah in the last two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.

But during the Eid-ul-Fitr this year, Muslim devotees will be able to gather on the Supreme Court premises en masse – only if the weather is favorable.

However, the downward trend in new Covid cases, with the country registering a 0.63% daily test-positivity rate as of Friday, does not dismiss the possibility of another surge. Experts have suggested wearing masks and maintaining all Covid guidelines to avoid contraction.

Officials say they are ready to accommodate around 84,000 devotees on Eid day. Separate arrangements have been made for the women.

Eid will be celebrated on Monday or Tuesday, subject to the sighting of the moon. The main congregation will be held at 8:30am.

Piaro Sardar & Sons, the contractor, is preparing the Eidgah ground under the supervision of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

They have already erected the pandals, working to place the awnings and canvases, and set up loudspeakers in and around the venue.

Ceiling fans and pedestal fans will be installed so that the worshipers do not suffer in hot weather. Mobile toilets are also being set up at the venue.

On the other hand, the law enforcers are working to ensure foolproof security at the site. To this end, CCTV cameras are being installed all around.

Then again, if the weather does not permit, preparations have been made to hold the main congregation at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 9am.
