Doctors who conducted the post-mortem examinations of LGBT rights activists Xulhaz Mannan and Mahbub Tonoy killed on Monday have observed that the killers were very experienced in attacking with machetes.
“It is totally the work of an expert hand. The killers were trained up,” said Sohel Mahmud, assistant professor of the forensic department at Dhaka Medical College, yesterday.
Xulhaz died of head injuries as the killers had hit him with machetes on the same place of his head repeatedly, he said. They hit Tonoy on the head and neck several times leaving his spinal cord broken.
“It is totally impossible to survive after facing such attacks,” Dr Sohel said, adding that the duo also received cuts on their left hands in their attempt to resist the attackers.
“The wounds suggest that the killers were professionals. The bloggers killed recently were attacked with machetes in a similar manner,” he added.
Earlier SI Ansar Ali of Kalabagan police conducted the inquest report of the bodies. He said that the assailants had hit the same place on their heads a number of times. Both of them died on the spot.
