At least six people suffered burn injuries in a fire caused by a gas cylinder leak at a restaurant in the capital’s Kalabagan.

The incident was reported around 9:30am on Tuesday from FA Al Boraq restaurant.

The victims are Md Farhan, 20, Md Faisal Ahmed 15, Sarwar Hossain 20, Md Tamim, 17, Sabuj, 30 and Nahid 22. They all are employees at the restaurant.

They were rushed to the nearby Square Hospitals and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

All of the victims, except for Sarwar Hossain, were discharged from the hospitals after primary treatment as they sustained less than 2% burns.

“Sarwar suffered 15% burns,” said Resident Surgeon Partha Sankar Pal of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital burn unit.

The restaurant’s manager Habibur Rahman said they stored several gas cylinders on the ground floor of the building. “As soon as the employees turned up the flames on the stove, the fire started spreading.”
