The Cabinet Division has decided to make ‘Joy Bangla’ the national slogan of Bangladesh.
The government will issue a notification in this regard in a couple of days mandating the use of the slogan, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told a media call on Sunday.
The slogan, which roughly translates to victory to Bengal, must be used in speeches by those working at all government and private offices, Anwarul told reporters following a meeting of the Cabinet Division headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“The ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan also has to be used at assemblies at schools, meetings, seminars and gatherings,” he added.
Prime Minister’s advisor on private industry and investment Salman F Rahman had earlier demanded in the parliament to make Joy Bangla as the national slogan.
He then also strongly argued that Joy Bangla is a national slogan and not be considered as any party slogan.
