A ferry has now hit a span of the Padma Bridge in Munshiganj’s Louhaganj.

The ferry Birshreshtha Jahangir hit the span between the second and third pillars around 7am on Tuesday, confirmed Abu Taher, officer-in-charge of Mawa Naval police outpost.

Birshreshtha Jahangir was going from Shimulia to Paturia Ghat when its mast hit the 1-B span of the bridge. The ferry’s mast was broken.

However, no damage was done to the span of the bridge, said the police official.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader is going to inspect this incident.

Earlier on August 9 and 13, Ro-Ro Ferry hit pillar no 10 of the bridge.

Besides, ferries had hit the pillars of Padma Bridge on the way from Banglabazar ghat twice more.

The 16th and 17th pillars were hit by ferries on July 20 and 23. General diaries have been filed, inquiry committees have been constituted, and ferry drivers have been suspended as a result of these instances.
