Bangladeshi Rakib Al Hasan has won the Outstanding Young Leader of Asia 2021 award for his leading role in promoting the health and rights of children in the post-Covid world, as well as for ensuring children's and women's rights, education, health, democracy and peace internationally.
Rakib is the only Bangladeshi to have received the award from the Asian Youth Council, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Rakib, an author, activist and youth leader, is currently studying medicine. He has been working on youth leadership for several years.
As one of the winners this year, Rakib will now be considered among the most influential young leaders in Asia. He will also participate on the organizing body of the next Asian Youth Council conference.
The award committee will organize an in-person ceremony to hand over certificates, crests, and medals once the Covid situation improves.
Rakib will also have the opportunity to take a fully funded tour to 48 countries in Asia. The organization has also confirmed his active participation in various international projects, conferences, seminars and development work.
Rakib won the Global Youth Leadership Award in 2019. He previously represented Bangladesh at the 70th anniversary of Chinese independence in 2019, and the International Volunteer Forum of Islamic Countries in Azerbaijan in 2020.
He is a well-known and influential young diplomat in the international arena, and regularly writes article columns on contemporary events in various domestic and international media.
He has already published seven books and made headlines on and covers of various international newspapers and magazines.
Outstanding Young Leader of Asia 2021
The Asian Youth Council, an influential youth organization in Asia, organized the Outstanding Young Leader of Asia 2021 award to encourage youth leaders around the world and give them more opportunities.
Considering the international significance and impact of the nominated young leaders over a three-month long selection process , the judiciary announced 10 outstanding young leaders on the occasion of International Youth Day on Thursday.
Rakib Al Hasan is the only Bangladeshi on the list. Of the remaining nine, two each from Vietnam and Afghanistan while one each are from Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, China, and Russia.
The president of the Asian Youth Council Hun Many is the son of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
In a video message, Hun Sen greeted Bangladesh on the golden jubilee of the country’s independence.
