Police have arrested two individuals for taking their shot of Covid-19 vaccine at home in Chittagong.
The incident was revealed after the arrestees - Mubarak Ali and Mohammad Hasan - posted a photo of themselves, getting vaccinated at home, on Facebook.
Khulshi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahinuzzaman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Monday.
He said Hasan posted a picture of being vaccinated at home on his Facebook account on Sunday. He also thanked his friend Mubarak Ali for his help in providing the vaccine.
Upon receiving the news, police arrested Hasan on Sunday night and Mubarak on Monday afternoon.
The OC also said that a case had been filed against the arrestees with Khulshi police station.
“We are investigating whether anyone else is involved with them,” the OC added.
Chittagong Civil Surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said: “We have already been informed about the matter. But we are still unsure as to how they got the vaccines. The boxes containing the vaccines are not opened at the Civil Surgeon’s Office.
“We send the boxes to the vaccination centres on the basis of demand where the vaccine vials are usually opened.”
Morshed Alam, Councillor of Ward 8 where this incident happened, said: “There is no chance of getting vaccinated illegally in my ward.”
A lab technician named Bishu Dutta, from North Kattli, was reportedly involved in the case, according to police.
Police are conducting a drive to detain him.
