New Delhi mission pays homage to Sheikh Kamal

Captain Sheikh Kamal’s exceptional capacities in sport were admired and a short sketch of his life was read in the meeting

Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Thursday paid homage to valiant freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal on the occasion of his 72nd birth anniversary.

Capt Sheikh Kamal was assassinated along with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most members of his family on the brutal night of August 15 in 1975.

His birth anniversary was observed with due solemnity through holding of discussion and placing wreaths at his portraits at Bangabandhu Corner of the chancery building.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran led the officers and staff of the mission in laying the wreaths.

He later presided over a discussion on the life and work of Sheikh Kamal at the chancery’s Bangabandhu Conference Hall.

Muhammad Imran recalled his memory with Sheikh Kamal and admired him for his exceptional capacity to organize sports, art and music after the 1971 Liberation War.

He also recalled Sheikh Kamal’s role during the war, when he acted as the ADC of then Commander-in-Chief Gen MAG Osmani.

Muhammad Imran also said Sheikh Kamal was an idol of modern fulfilled man among the then youth who got all his attributes from his family, and these attributes were reflected in his personal, social and cultural life.

At the meeting, a short life sketch of Capt Sheikh Kamal was read out by Counsellor (Economic) MD Rashedul Amin, Assistant Defence Adviser Lieutenant Colonel Md Kamrul Hasan, and Second Secretary Tahsina Nasrin.

Selim Md Jahangir, minister (consular) at the mission, also spoke on the occasion. Md Zakaria Bin Amjad, minister and second secretary, conducted the meeting.

A documentary on the life of Capt Sheikh Kamal also screened. A Doa was offered seeking divine blessing for Sheikh Kamal and his family.
