Police have arrested 19 Jamaat leaders and activists from Adurpara area in Chittagong.
Acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid and detained the Jamaat leaders during a secret meeting at 12pm on Monday, Chandgaon police station Officer in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman confirmed.
According to police sources, they were planning to carry out destructive activities at important places or government institutions.

The detainees include Jamaat's Chandgaon Thana North unit President Abul Hasan Md Yasin, Secretary Rafiq Uddin, and Assistant Baitulmal Secretary Iskander.

Organizational documents and books published by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir were recovered during the raid.
A case under the Special Powers Act has been filed with Chandgaon police station over the incident and the accused have been sent to jail, said OC Mostafizur.
