The army will be called in to assist the police and the border guard troopers in enforcing the hard lockdown imposed amid the surge of coronavirus infections, says State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain.
“A strict lockdown will be enforced for seven days starting from Monday. It might be extended, depending on the [Covid-19] situation,” he told the media on Friday, soon after the Information Ministry issued a notification regarding the lockdown.
People will not be able to leave home during the lockdown, except for emergency, Hossain said.
“The army will be deployed along with the police and the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) to enforce the lockdown,” added the state minister.

All government and private offices will remain closed, he said, adding that some bank branches and offices of the National Board of Revenue would operate until June 30 for the national budget.
All transports, except for those carrying emergency goods, will remain suspended. Ambulances and vehicles used for healthcare as well as media will be exempted from the restrictions.
The Cabinet Division will disclose the details on the upcoming restrictions in a notice on Saturday, State Minister Hossain said.
