At least two people have reportedly killed themselves in Dhaka city.
The body of Rabbi, an 18-year-old rickshaw puller, was found hanging inside his home in Mohammadpur in the early hours of Wednesday.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, his mother Bulbuli Akter said that Rabbi and his wife had a fight Tuesday night.
“At one point, Rabbi, when his wife went outside of their room, locked the door and hanged himself from the ceiling,” said the grieving mother.
His body was recovered around 1:145am Wednesday.
Soon after, neighbours rushed him to the Bangladesh Medical College Hospital where doctors referred him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
But he was declared dead on arrival at DMCH’s emergency department, said DMCH police outpost In-Charge Inspector Bachchu Mia. The body was later sent to the morgue for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, police on Wednesday morning also recovered the body of a woman from Dhaka’s Goran area.
The deceased,32-year-old Marjana Akter Madhubi, was a student at Bangladesh University.
Her husband Rasel Mahmud said that Madhubi was in an extramarital affair with one of her fellow classmates named Sajjad Sajal.
Because of that, the couple, who has a seven-year-old boy, had separated three years ago.
Rasel, the Munshiganj district correspondent of private TV station Channel i, was unable to give a reason behind Madhubi’s suicide but speculated that she might have killed herself following a fight with Sajal.
Khilgaon police station Sub-Inspector Aishai Nur Kanak said: “Madhubi’s body was found hanging from the ceiling inside a room at her Goran house on Wednesday morning. It was later sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy.”
He said: “We will be able to say more about the exact cause of death after getting the autopsy report and further investigation.”
