Members of Bangladesh Judicial Service (BJS) 8th batch have elected their executive committee.
Uzma Shukrana, Law and Justice Department’s attached officer, was elected as president while Tangail Senior Judicial Magistrate (SJM) Suman Kumar Karmokar and Habiganj SJM Paban Chandra Barman made as general secretary and organizing secretary of the committee respectively.
General members of the 8th BJS voted online. The five-member election commission was headed by Jessore SJM Md Manjurul Islam.
The others member of the executive committees are: Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Tarikul Islam as joint secretary, Netrokona SJM Sohel Mrong as ICT and publicity secretary, Lakshmipur SJM Jewel Deb as literature, sports and cultural secretary.
The executive members are Rajbari SJM Sudhangsha Sekhar Roy, Manikgank Legal Aid Officer Subarna Senjuty, Patukhali SJM Md Ashiqur Rahman.
On behalf of the newly formed executive committee, President Uzma Shukrana expressed her hope to work sincerely in coordination with the Bangladesh Judicial Service Association, the central body of judges, to ensure justice for the people.
It is noted that since the separation of the judiciary, the process of appointment of judges has been done through Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC) instead of Public Service Commission.
Since the 18th BCS, the judges have gradually come under the BJSC. At present, the judges are called BJS cadre instead of BCS cadre. Judges of the 8th BJS joined as judges in 2015 and are employed in different districts of the country.
