One of the victims of a fire, which injured five of a family following a gas cylinder explosion at a residential building in Narayanganj’s Fatullah upazila, has died while receiving treatment.
Partha Sanker Paul, resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Md Mishal, who suffered 90% burns from the explosion and was receiving treatment at the at intensive care unit of the institute.
The doctor also said others injured in the fire were also not out of danger yet.
On Tuesday, fire erupted from an explosion on the top floor of the six-storey building in Masdai Patenga Mor area of the upazila in the early hours of Tuesday, around 12:30am.
Garment worker Mishal, his wife Mita, 23, their one-year sold son Minhaj, and Mita’s two brothers Mahfuj and Sajib, were injured in the blaze.
Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Arefin said that they believe that there was a gas leakage in the apartment and the explosion took place when somebody tried to turn on the stove, light a combustible substance, or through a spark.
The victims were first admitted to Narayanganj General Hospital, and were later transferred to Dhaka as their conditions worsened.
