Bangladeshi man found murdered in Belize

Update : 07 Jul 2017, 11:47 AM
A Bangladeshi businessman has been found dead inside his rented flat in Belize City, the capital of Belize. Police say Abdus Salam, 29, was strangled to death on Saturday and that they are looking for a man who was seen getting out of the flat after the murder, reports News5. The motive behind the first recorded murder of a Bangladeshi national in Belize is unclear. Central American country Belize, bordering the Caribbean Sea, sits between Guatemala and Mexico. Salam operated a small business in Belize City and shared the flat on Orange Street with several others. His housemate Shamiul Amin Torofdar said he discovered Salam's nude body lying face down on his bed with his hands bound with a belt behind his back. Shamiul said Salam had invited several men to his room in the last two years. Police say there were no signs of injury on the body. Belize City Police Crime Investigation Branch chief Alejandro Cowo said nothing was stolen and there was no sign of forced entry. Investigators said Salam left his shop inside the Novelo’s Bus Terminal on Collet Canal around 1:30pm on Saturday and headed home. Apparently, his killer entered the flat with him. Surveillance cameras caught a man, who frequented Salam's apartment, coming out of the building in the afternoon. Superintendent Cowo said they were looking for the suspect but declined to divulge more information. The description given by Salam's housemates matched more or less with the man seen coming out of the flat. Cowo said they suspected that the Bangladeshi man was strangled or choked to death. Fakhrul Alam Salim, who heads Bangladesh Association of Belize, said they were preparing to send Salam's body home. “It depends on the family,” he said. “We will try our best to send it.”
