A Narail court has issued separate arrest warrants against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and the party's standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy in two defamation cases.
Judge Amatul Morsheda of the district's Judicial Magistrate Court-2 passed the order on Wednesday.
Complainant Sheikh Ashiq Billah said Khaleda Zia had made negative remarks about the number of three million Liberation War martyrs and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at a rally in Dhaka on December 21, 2015.
Ashiq learned of the matter from various newspapers on December 22, leaving him furious.
A week later, he filed a Tk1 million defamation case against the BNP chief.
The other case was against Gayeshwar, which he lodged at the same court the same day, on December 29, 2015, over the BNP leader's derogatory comments on the country's war heroes.
Judge Amatul Morsheda issued arrest warrants against the two after the accused in the two cases failed to appear before the court despite being summoned.
