Sikder Group Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder has been granted bail on charges of threatening to murder a top bank executive hours after he was arrested on Friday.
Ron, who has been a fugitive since May last year, was arrested in the morning soon after he landed at the Dhaka airport following the death of his father, who founded the business group.
He was produced before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam, who accepted his bail plea.
Ron’s father Zainul Haque Sikder passed away on February 10 at a hospital in Dubai.
Ron came to Dhaka from Dubai due to the death of his father, according to police.
He and his Dipu Haque Sikder are accused of abducting and threatening to kill the managing director of Exim Bank in a case filed with Dhaka’s Gulshan police in May last year.
Ron and Dipu fled to Thailand by an air ambulance the same month.

On May 7 last year, the brothers allegedly tortured and threated to murder Exim’s Managing Director Haider Ali Mia and Additional Managing Director Md Firoz Hossain.
They allegedly shot at the senior bank executives when they refused to overvalue their mortgaged property for a Tk500 crore loan.
The bank started a case on May 19. National Bank Limited, a concern of the Sikder Group, denied the allegations through their lawyer, saying the case was filed to socially defame them.
The brothers took a private air ambulance of R&R Aviation, another Sikder Group concern, and left the country on May 25.
