The Bangladesh police will receive two advanced helicopters for efficiency and more capabilities

Update : 10 Feb 2021, 10:56 PM

Two advanced helicopters from Russia will be added to the Bangladesh Police fleet to enhance the efficiency and capability of law enforcement in order to ensure better public safety.

The addition of helicopters will enable the police to conduct key operations and increase surveillance in remote and inaccessible areas. It will also help police in their fight against militancy and terrorism.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Bangladesh Police and helicopter manufacturer JSC Russian Helicopters on Wednesday for the purchase of helicopters on a government-to-government (G2G) basis.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and Director General of Russian Helicopters AI Boginsky signed the agreement through a video conference call.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said Bangladesh and Russia are mutual friends and trusted development partners.

"Russia has been helping Bangladesh build the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, renovate old power plants, and increase the capacity of army and law enforcement agencies," Kamal said.

"The addition of helicopters to the police fleet will enhance the maintenance of order and public safety,” he added.
