A 17-year-old aspiring model has allegedly been gang-raped by five people, who had earlier promised to have appear on an assignment on a YouTube content, in Kashimpur, Gazipur.
However, she is not having any medical conditions.
Police arrested all five accused early on Wednesday, hours after a case was filed in this connection, said Kashimpur Model police station Officer-in-Charge Mahbube Khoda.
According to the case, one of the five people--Jahangir Alam, Suman Miah, Russel Talukder, Jahir Uddin and Shahabul Alam-- recently tricked her into going to his house at Sardaganj near the police station.
The victim was contacted by them on the pretext of shooting for a YouTube channel, the OC said, adding that the culprits forced themselves on her in turns, keeping her confined at the house instead.
She finally escaped from the place and filed the case late on Tuesday night.
After they were arrested, the accused were produced in a local court, which sent them to jail.
Both rapes and gang-rapes have been a grave and growing concern in Bangladesh, with 317 gang-rapes of women reported in 2020 alone, according to the rights group Ain O Salish Kendra.
Over the same period, no fewer than 1,000 child rapes were reported across the country.
Bangladesh was rocked by continued protests to amend the rape law late last year, following which the death penalty was cleared for rapists. In early January, the rape and murder of an O-level student triggered protests across the country.
