The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will award medals to two Bangladeshi diplomats on Victory Day for their contribution in the field of diplomacy.
Starting 2020, the award, titled “'Bangabandhu Award for Diplomatic Excellence,” will be granted to a Bangladeshi diplomat and a foreign diplomat working in Bangladesh each year.
Committee chairman Muhammad Farooq Khan said on Wednesday the diplomats will be awarded a gold medal along with a citation, reports Bangla Tribune.
For the first time, on Victory Day, Rear Admiral (Retd) Khurshid Alam, secretary, Maritime Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Syed Mohammad Al Muhari, former ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Bangladesh, will receive this medal.
Farooq Khan said the awards will be handed out by the Ministry of External Affairs every year in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The awards will encourage foreigners to work in Bangladesh and to contribute to the betterment of the country, he added.
