Aly Zaker laid to eternal rest at Banani graveyard

The legendary actor passed away early Friday morning

Ekushey Padak-winning cultural personality and freedom fighter Aly Zaker has been laid to rest at Banani graveyard in Dhaka.

He was buried with state honours at around 4:35pm on Friday, following his namaz-e-janaza at the graveyard after Asr prayers, said actor Faruk Ahmed, a family friend of Aly Zaker's, reports Bangla Tribune.

Earlier, Zaker’s body was taken to the Liberation War Museum, where he was one of the trustees, at around 11am, for people to pay their last respects.

People from all walks of life, including cultural activists, freedom fighters and politicians, paid their last tributes to Zaker.

He was also accorded the state honour there.

The legendary actor passed away at the United Hospital in Dhaka at around 6:40am on Friday.

Zaker was diagnosed with Covid-19 two days prior to his death. He had been battling with cancer for the last four years.

He is survived by wife and actor Sara Zaker, son Iresh Zaker and daughter Sriya Sharbojoya.

For his work, alongside Ekushey Padak, Zaker also received Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award, Bangabandhu Award, Munier Chowdhury Award, Naren Biswas Award, among other accolades.
