The vice chancellor of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, has been appointed as a member of the Advisory Council of the Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP).

The 14th General Assembly and Conference of AUAP, held online on Wednesday, announced the appointment of the officials, including Dr Lamagna as a member of the Advisory Council for the term 2020-2022, said a press release issued on Sunday.

AIUB has been a member of AUAP since 2003.

Being with AIUB since its inception in 1994, Dr Lamagna has served as its VC since 1997, making her mark as the first female VC of a university in Bangladesh.

She was the treasurer and a board member of AUAP from 2004-2006, the first to represent Bangladesh in spearheading the international platform. She then became the vice president (2006-2008) and eventually the president (2008-2010).

She continued her legacy of leadership as an ex officio board member from 2010-2012 and then again as a board member from 2012-2018.

According to its website, AUAP is a non-governmental organization, holding the highest formal consultative status with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). Its primary purpose is to be the main platform for interaction and collaboration between members, and to be the effective voice of universities in Asia and the Pacific region.
