Persistent rain for next 3 days

After 72 hours, the rain and thunder showers may decrease gradually

Update : 01 Nov 2020, 07:46 PM

Many parts of Bangladesh have seen rain in last 24 hours due to the formation of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and the rain is likely to continue for two or three days, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has said.

In a weather forecast at 9am on Sunday, BMD said a low-pressure area has formed over the central Bay and adjoining North Bay. It is likely to move in a north/north-westerly direction.

Due to this low pressure, rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places in Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions; at a few places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions; and at one or two places over Rangpur division.

After 72 hours, the rain and thunder showers may decrease gradually, BMD forecasted.

Abdul Mannan, a meteorologist of BMD, said: "Dome places may face heavy rain in the southern part of the country. It should be noted that the temperature will fall due to the countrywide rainfall, but this is temporary. It does not mean that winter has started. The temperature will rise again after three to four days."

Cautionary signal 3 at ports

In a maritime warning on Sunday, BMD said, squally weather is likely to affect the maritime ports, North Bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh.

The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal 3.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.

Monsoon has withdrawn

BMD also said the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from Bangladesh, so there will be no more seasonal rains due to the monsoon.

Any rains in the forthcoming days will be due to low-pressure zones in the Bay of Benga; or some other phenomenon, they added.
