The Bangladeshi naval ship BNS Bijoy, which was damaged in an explosion at Lebanon's Beirut Port on August 4, has returned to the Chittagong Naval base.
It anchored at the naval jetty on Sunday morning after 31 days and sailing 10,200 kilometres, according to an ISPR release.
Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal and other senior officials received the ship, it said.
Five Bangladeshi nationals were among the dead and over 100 others, including 21 members of Bangladesh Navy, were injured in the massive blasts that damaged or destroyed Beirut on August 4.
Navy ship BNS Bijoy, which was engaged in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, was also damaged in the explosions linked to a long-neglected stash of potentially explosive chemicals.
Another navy ship ‘BNS Sangram’ started for Lebanon from Chittagong on August 9 to replace the damaged one.
BNS Bijoy, which patrolled Lebanese waters as part of the UN peacekeeping operation Maritime Task Force, started for the country after handing over charges to the new warship.
On its way back, the damaged parts of the ship were repaired in Turkey.
