The International Board of Trustees of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) has appointed Dr Tahmeed Ahmed -- the first Bangladeshi in this post -- as its new executive director.
Dr Ahmed will take up his new assignment on February 1, 2021, succeeding Dr John Clemens who has served as the executive director since 2013, said a press release on Wednesday.
He is the first Bangladeshi in the organization’s 60-year history to assume the position of executive director.
Speaking after his appointment, Dr Ahmed pledged to make research on Covid-19 a key priority.
“It’s an honour to be the first Bangladeshi executive director of icddr,b,” he said.
