Sujan: Tourism to improve when Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar rail line completed

Various initiatives have been undertaken to enhance passenger services

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Saturday said if the rail line from Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar, one of the fast track projects of the government, is completed then the country will see a massive change in its tourism industry.

“If this fast tract project is implemented, then it will be very easy to reach Cox’s Bazar and many tourists from home and abroad will come here. This rail line from Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar will make important contribution to country’s economic sector,” he said while inspecting the construction work of the aforesaid rail line here.

It is informed that the rail line from Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar is expected to be completed by June in 2022 where 42% overall progress work of it has been already completed as of August this year.

At the beginning of the visit, the minister inspected the work of the iconic station building under construction near Cox’s Bazar.

He handed over compensation cheques to some of the victims there to mitigate their hardships.

Nurul Islam Sujan said the railway authorities are currently implementing many projects as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given more importance to railways.

Various activities have been undertaken to enhance passenger services including the construction of new railway lines, purchase of new locomotives, coaches and construction of double lines, he added.

“We are trying to bring the whole country under the rail network by improving it,” he said.

The minister then inspected the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded overpass and underpass construction project works for elephant crossings in the forest areas.
