Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) has expressed deep concern over the deaths of three teenage boys at Jessore juvenile correctional centre, reportedly after they had been tortured at the instruction of some correctional officers.
The non-government organization demanded exemplary punishment for the people involved in the heinous crime after an impartial investigation, said a media statement.
The deaths of the three teenagers highlights the systemic indifference of authorities at juvenile correctional facilities, the statement added.
There are allegations that the authorities did not take any action even though there was a clash between the children on August 13. The teenagers had been growing frustrated due to mismanagement of food, according to media reports.

The authorities reportedly beat the children.
“As many as 280 teenagers from all over the country were staying at this correctional facility. The authorities cannot neglect the responsibility of ensuring the security and development for these adolescent boys,” the statement said.
MJF called for immediate action to restore the juvenile correctional centre through a speedy investigation.
The organization demanded that the physical and mental security of the teens at the facility i ensured, without any abuse, and that the responsibility of feeding them is properly fulfilled.
