Dhaka has condemned what it calls a disinformation campaign by some web portals based in the north-eastern region of India, involving the prime minister, ministers, advisers, military, security forces and intelligence agencies of Bangladesh.
Naming three such portals, the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata urged everyone concerned to ignore the false information run by these outlets.

"It has come to our notice that several web portals based in India's northeastern region have published totally false and baseless articles and rumours against the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Hon'ble Ministers and Advisers, military and security forces and intelligence agencies of Bangladesh," said the mission in a press statement issued on Friday.
"Most notably, the said portals have run distorted and photoshopped image of Prime Minister and Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan, in an attempt to hurt (the) existing friendly ties between Bangladesh and India," it said.
"We understand that these web portals, namely theeasternlink.com, nenow.in and lookeast.in, are operated by or under the auspices of a discredited Indian journalist who has prior record of disseminating false information about Bangladesh," said the statement.

"In 2017, the said journalist published a baseless and debunked article suggesting a deadly coup and murder attempt against the prime minister of Bangladesh. In addition, these portals have published spurious and provocative articles about Bangladesh's military and security forces, lacking any sense of journalistic integrity," it said.
"We condemn such disinformation campaign targeting Bangladesh. We would like to urge all concerned to disregard false information peddled by these web portals," it added.
