Freedom Fighter ATM Alamgir, also a politician of the Jatiya Party and formerly Bangladesh Nationalist Party died of Covid-19 around 9pm on Monday.
The 70-year-old man had been undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) Greenlife Medical College Hospital in Dhaka, confirmed Alamgir's younger brother Kamal Hossain Bulu, a former upazila vice chairman of Monohargonj .
Alamgir's burial would be arranged around 10am on Tuesday by Dhaka's Al-Rashid Foundation in his village home Jhalam in Monohargonj, said Kamal.
After being diagnosed with Covid-19, Alamgir had been receiving treatment from home but was hospitalized as his condition deteriorated.
Alamgir was a lawmaker from Comilla-10 (Laksham-Monohargonj) during BNP's rule in 1991-1996.
