Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA) has threatened to adopt tough programs if any of their association members face any “unnecessary harassment.”
The association, in a statement on Monday, urged the government and law enforcement not to create fear or harass the doctors, nurses, and hospital members unnecessarily, otherwise they will take up tough programs.
The threat from private medical service providers comes at a time when security officials have started cracking down on hospitals involved in scams regarding fake Covid-19 testing across Bangladesh.
If there is any specific allegation against a private institution, they shall be dealt with under the existing law of the country and action shall be taken upon investigation by proper authorities, they said in the statement signed by BPMCA President M A Mubin Khan and General Secretary Anwar Hossain Khan.
Pointing to the fact that every Covid-19 dedicated hospital is now treating coronavirus infected patients, the treatment of the patients should be the focus, not harassment.
It also urged the government and the private sector to assist all Covid-19 dedicated hospitals in the process.
Bangladesh security officials have so far closed a number of private hospitals and arrested a number of their staff for their alleged involvement in scams regarding Covid-19 treatment.
In a recent move, Rapid Action Battalion this week sealed Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for Covid-19 testing scam. Two of their staff were also detained.
Earlier, the government suspended permission of conducting Covid-19 tests in five private hospitals and diagnostic centres - Shahabuddin Medical, Care Medical College, Stemz Healthcare, and Thyrocare Diagnostic in Dhaka, and Epic Health Care in Chittagong.
On July 6, the elite force sealed Uttara and Mirpur branch of Regent Hospital due to a scam involving Covid-19 testing.
