The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two individuals suspected to be involved with counterfeit money-making gang.

The suspects, identified as Palash and Rifat, were arrested in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area on Monday, Maj HM Parvez Arefin of RAB 2 told Dhaka Tribune.

He said a team of RAB 2 conducted a raid at a house in Moghbazar area following a tip-off, and found the duo.

The team also seized counterfeit notes amounting to Tk1 crore, a computer, a printer and other material to make the fake notes, he further added.

With Eid-ul-Azha approaching, the counterfeit note makers have become more active, the RAB official said.

During the preliminary interrogation, the arrestees said had already released fake notes for Tk70 lakh in the market, he added.

They sell counterfeit notes amounting to Tk1 lakh for Tk18,000 to Tk20,000, the RAB official further said.

The fake note makers get orders on mobile phone from different places, so it is difficult to know who is buying, Maj Arefin said.

An investigation is underway to find out who is behind the counterfeit money-making operation, he added.

After interrogation, the arrestees will be handed over to police, he said.
