Former whip Md Ashraf Hossain passes away

He was under treatment in different hospitals in Dhaka for eight months during the period of past one year

Former whip Md Ashraf Hossain breathed his last at the capital's United Hospital early Saturday after he was admitted there 25 days ago.

Ashraf, former BNP joint secretary, and four times parliament member from Khulna-3 constituency, was 79 years old.

He had been suffering from different illness including cancer and bacteria infection in his brain, confirmed his eldest son Moin Uddin Ashraf.

He was under treatment in different hospitals in Dhaka for eight months during the period of past one year before surrendering to death around 3am on Saturday.

His Namaj-e-Janaza will be held at Jam-e-Mosque at Nikunja-2 after Zohr prayer and will be buried in Comilla near his parent’s graveyard.

On 2008, he became inactive in politics being suspended from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He made several statements against BNP's acting chairperson Tarique Rahman and the previous "autocratic nature" of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's power.
