Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has rejected reports that Bangladesh MP Kazi Shahid Islam Papul has obtained citizenship of the country.

It comes a day after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told in parliament on Wednesday that the Laxmipur 2 constituency, represented by Papul, will be declared vacant if it’s found that the lawmaker is a Kuwaiti citizen.

In a statement on Thursday, the Kuwaiti ministry said that reports of the Papul obtaining citizenship were “incorrect”.
