Regarding the arrest of Lakshmipur 2 lawmaker Shahidul Islam Papul in Kuwait on charges of international human trafficking, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief Mahbubur Rahman said it is an international issue and they are working on it while taking lots of things into consideration.
He also told the reporters to wait and see what happens, adding that he will soon be able to answer all the questions.
The CID chief said this while answering questions from journalists in a press conference held at the CID headquarters on Monday afternoon. The CID had organized the conference to discuss the ongoing investigation of the human trafficking cases, and the legal process for preventing human trafficking.
“We are starting an investigation into his [Papul] money laundering case. It will be clear whether he was involved in money laundering or not after the investigation is completed,” Mahbubur said.
He also mentioned that the progress of the case against the suspended Jubo Mohila League leader Papia was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, and hoped that the case will soon come to an end after she is taken into remand.
Mahbubur said Bangladeshi godfathers and other people involved in human trafficking to Libya and other countries are under surveillance.
"We have received two lists of human traffickers from two ministries. Trafficking victims, their families, and embassies in different countries have also provided lots of information, including the names of human traffickers. We are also keeping them under surveillance,” the CID chief added.
He said they got the names of many people by interrogating the arrested human traffickers and the information they received is being checked and sorted.
CID is investigating the godfathers of the human trafficking rings in various ways, in accordance with the law, so that they do not find any loopholes after the arrest, he further added.
