State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Tuesday said a diverse workforce and inclusive workplace can play a vital role in boosting RMG sector.
He called for integration of people with disabilities with mainstream productivity through providing special training.
“If we can ensure their participation in the apparel sector, they will play a pivotal role in increasing production,” Mujibul said while speaking at a seminar as the chief guest.
The seminar titled “Inclusive business: could it lead to higher productivity and better working condition?” was held at a hotel in the capital, said a press release.
Center of Excellence for Bangladesh Apparel Industry (CEBAI) in collaboration with ILO RMG Center of Excellence Project hosted the seminar.
The state minister said the government is committed to ensuring equality in every sector to accelerate the country’s development.
Bangladesh adopted Rights and Protection of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2013. To implement the act, the government is committed to helping build productive capacity of the persons with disability, provide them with necessary support and increase employment opportunities in public and private jobs for skilled and unskilled inclusive workforce, he said.
The junior minister appreciated the efforts of Ananta Groups, Bitopi Group and Shin Shin Group for adopting the inclusive business policy in their respective factories.
He hoped that other industries will also follow suit.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association president M Siddiqur Rahman, Technical and Madrasah Division Secretary to the Education Ministry Mohammad Alamgir and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, among others, addressed the seminar.
