A special flight has flown back 385 Bangladeshis, who were stranded in Doha amidst travel restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The flight, arranged by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:10pm on Friday, Biman’s Deputy General Manager Tahera Khondoker told Dhaka Tribune.
So far, 885 Bangladeshis have returned from Qatar between June 11 and July 3.
Most of the Bangladeshis had been staying in Qatar without any job, even though they went there as workers. Some of them may have lost their jobs due to the lockdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic and a few of them were there on tourist visas as well.
Some of the workers also said that they needed to return to their families due to emergencies caused by the coronavirus crisis.
However, all international flights were cancelled till July 30 except Dubai and London due to the Covid-19 pandemic, while all Manchester bound flights have been cancelled till 15 July, and Dhaka - Singapore - Dhaka flights have been suspended from 21st March to 31 August, according to Biman Bangladesh Airlines official website.
