The Directorate of Posts is being prepared for buying and selling products of marginal farmers, said Posts and Telecommunications Division Minister Mustafa Jabbar.
The minister disclosed the information on Saturday, reports UNB.
“This initiative has been taken to ensure fair prices of goods produced by the marginal farmers,” he said, adding that the money from selling the products will directly reach the farmers concerned without the involvement of any middlemen.
Jabbar said this while virtually addressing a function to open a toll-free transport service for carrying mango to Dhaka from Chapainawabganj.
The local district administration arranged the function on the occasion of launching the transport service of the Directorate of Posts, said a hand-out issued by the Press Information Department.
Jabbar said the government will not need to spend additional money for transporting farmers’ goods using return vehicles engaged in the countrywide postal services.
He said the initiative was taken in a bid to repay debts owed to the farmers.
Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Md Nur-Ur-Rahman and Directorate of Posts Director General Sudhangshu Shekhar Bhadra, among others, spoke during the function which was presided over by deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj AZM Nurul Haque.
