Twenty-five cases have been lodged across the country until Wednesday, over human trafficking and last month’s killing of 26 Bangladeshi migrants in Libya.
These cases were filed by the families of the victims and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police.
Also, at least 36 people have so far been arrested from different parts of the country in this connection, said Md Sohel Rana, an assistant inspector general (AIG-media) at the Police Headquarters, while talking to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), CID and the Detective Branch (DB) of police made the arrests and are investigating the cases as well.
RAB 8 arrested two more suspected human traffickers from Muksudpur of Gopalganj and Gournadi of Barisal on Wednesday.
CID is investigating 12 cases across the country, Special Superintendent of Police (Serious Crimes and Homicide Squad) Syeda Zannat Ara had told a press briefing on Monday.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed earlier vowed to punish all human traffickers to the full extent of the law.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court on Wednesday scrapped the bail petition of one Sohagh Hossain, accused in a case filed over human trafficking and the Libya killings.
Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam passed the order during a virtual hearing on the plea filed by the 47-year-old suspected human trafficker.
The court on June 8 sent Sohagh to jail in the case filed at Paltan police station after CID arrested and produced him before it on that day.
At the end of last month, human traffickers recently shot 30 people, including 26 Bangladeshis, dead in Mizdah, Libya and left 11 others injured in an attack.
All the victims were trafficked to the war-torn African state en route to Europe.
Afterwards, law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh launched coordinated drives against the human trafficking gangs across the country.
