Kanchi Lal Das, a renowned chartered accountant, died of Covid-19 on Thursday.
According to a social media post made by his son he was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after being diagnosed with Covid-19.
Kanchi Lal Das, 77, passed away at about 1:10pm at the coronary care unit (CCU) of DMCH.
He was previously admitted to United Hospital with cold and fever on May 24. Later he was shifted to DMCH according to doctors' advice.
Kanchi Lal Das was born in 1943 to a reputable Hindu family in Chittagong’s Mirsharai upazila.
He passed chartered accountancy (CA) in 1982 and opened up his private firm Kanchi Lal and Company.
After long 20 years of working in his own firm he started collaborated with Shaheed Mohammad to establish the audit firm named Ahmad & Akhtar Chartered Accountants.
He has been one of the proprietors of the company till his death.
He along with a few other audit firms reinvented the management system and accounting system of mobile operators, which was a milestone for Bangladesh.
He left behind his wife Dr Rita Sen, a retired additional secretary; son Arunav Das Shuvro, a lawyer at the Supreme Court; daughter Deblina Das, a gynaecology specialist at Sarkari Karmachari Hospital, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
