The Local Government Division (LGD) has given a special grant worth Tk6 crore to help village police members during the coronavirus pandemic.

LGD issued a government order in this regard on Monday.

As many as 46,000 dafadars and mahalladars (ranks of village police) assigned to 4,569 union parishads in the country will get Tk1,300 each from this grant.

The concerned deputy commissioners (DC) have been sent letters of authorization to withdraw the money allotted to their respective districts according to the revised budget of the 2019-20 fiscal year, said Mahmudul Hasan, public relations officer of LGD.

“The DCs will give Tk1,300 directly to each village police member after withdrawing the allotted money from the treasury. The village police are being given this grant as an incentive for playing a special role in tackling the coronavirus situation,” he added.
