First banker dies of Covid-19

The 40-year-old was a senior official at the City Bank Ltd

A senior official of City Bank has died of Covid-19, the first such fatality among bankers in the country.

Forty-year-old Muztaba Shahriar died at Dhaka’s Mugda Medical College and Hospital on Sunday, according to one his colleagues.

Assistant Professor Mahbubur Rahman, the focal person of the hospital’s Covid-19 team, confirmed that he was a Covid-19 patient. 

According to a source at the bank, Shahriar, who was suffering from high fever for few days, underwent coronavirus testing twice upon advised by his relatives who were doctors. However, the results came back negative. 

He was taking medicine for urine infection as per doctor's advice, the source also said.

Shahriar later went to Mugda Medical College and Hospital for further checkup after his condition deteriorated on Saturday morning, when he was advised to get admitted immediately.
