Bangladesh has crossed the 1000 mark after 209 more people tested coronavirus positive in a single day.
Besides, another seven people died from the deadly virus, raising the death toll to 46.
Till date, the country reported 1,012 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, which is 20 times higher than it was on April 1 with 54 infections.
Meanwhile, recovery progress has slowed down significantly as no patient had recovered fully from the disease by the last 24 hours.
A total of 42 patients have recovered since the beginning of the outbreak in Bangladesh, marking a 5% recovery rate.
Disclosing the updates during the daily online health bulletin, Professor Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) said countrywide testing capacity will be increased within seven to ten days.
Many parts of the country had been put under lockdown as community transmission of Covid-19 has been taking place widely.
Currently, Covid-19 infection is being tested at 17 laboratories across the country, said Prof Sultana, adding that nine new organizations will start testing facilities within seven to ten days.
Among them, six are in different districts, including Chittagong and Comilla, while the rest are inside Dhaka city.
She also said 1,804 samples collected by last 24 hours, and 1,905 samples (included previously collected) were tested in the same period. The total samples collected in the country now stands at 13,128.
Nasima also added that the government has readied 481 organizations with a combined capacity to keep 26,352 people in quarantine across the country.
On Monday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said most of the newly infected people were from Dhaka and Narayanganj, the two biggest clusters for community transmission of Covid-19.
